A Family's Nightmare: Gun Attack in Binduri
In a chilling incident that has left an entire community reeling, a family of five, including two young children, met their tragic end in a night gun attack. The attackers, four unidentified gunmen, struck the Temgmasug farming community under the Koloku-Gumyoko Electoral Area in Binduri District, Upper East Region, on the evening of November 7, 2025. This is a story of a family's nightmare, a tale that highlights the grim reality of violence in certain regions.
The Assembly Member for the area, Anaba Joseph, was alerted around 7 p.m. that a horrific tragedy had unfolded. He recounted his harrowing experience, stating, 'I had a call around 7 to 8 p.m. yesterday that five people had been shot dead and another injured at Temgmasug under the Koloku-Gumyoko Electoral Area. Because of the ban on motorbikes, I couldn’t go there at night, so this morning I went there myself and saw it with my own eyes.'
The victims were Mr. and Mrs. [Family Name], their two children, and their family head, believed to be in his nineties. Mr. Anaba described the scene: 'They were in the compound of their house when the attackers struck. When they heard the gunshots, they tried to run inside their room, but before they could enter, they were shot right at the doorstep.'
The Assembly Member confirmed that all five were pronounced dead at the scene, while one relative, who sustained gunshot wounds, was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The gunmen, who entered the community on foot, first shot two cattle before targeting the family's home. Mr. Anaba explained, 'They shot all four, the man, his wife, and their two children right in front of their doorstep. The old man could not run, so he was still lying on the compound, and they shot him too. Only one person managed to escape with gunshot wounds and is currently in the hospital.'
Interestingly, the attackers did not use motorbikes, as Mr. Anaba noted, 'The house is just near a waterlogged area. After the killings, they picked a motorbike belonging to the victims. They seemed to have difficulties starting it, so they pushed it away while others continued shooting.'
The bodies of the deceased were buried according to Islamic custom, while the injured victim remains under medical care. Mr. Anaba expressed the community's trauma, saying, 'All five have been buried, and I was there myself. We are really traumatized by the turn of events in our community. It is very sad.'
The Presiding Member of the Binduri District, Samuel Azure, shared the community's fear, stating, 'The community was gripped with fear over the frequent attacks and killings of innocent citizens.' The incident has cast a shadow of fear and mourning over the Koloku-Gumyoko Electoral Area, with residents expressing concerns over rising insecurity and appealing for enhanced security measures.
As the investigation unfolds, the residents of Temgmasug and its surroundings remain anxious, hoping for swift justice and the restoration of peace in the Binduri District. This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by communities in vulnerable areas, where the safety and well-being of citizens are constantly at risk.
